    FAQ

The herbarium is a scientific unit that does not offer regular workshops or guided tours of the collection, but if you are interested in workshops for organized groups or the topics we offer, please use the form above.

The herbarium and the collections are available on site to all qualified researchers for conducting scientific research and consultations. It is also available to employees of institutions related to botany and nature conservation, as well as all people interested in botanical collections.

People planning a visit to the herbarium are asked to make an appointment of planned visit with the Herbarium Curator or his assistant, using the form above.

    • Applications for the loan of herbarium materials are considered only by botanical institutions recognized in the Index Herbariorum, and not from natural persons. All applications are checked by the Curator and colleagues. The collections of the UG Herbarium are loaned to scientific institutions (we do not send material to individual researchers).
    • Loans are provided free of charge and services. The institution/researcher is expected to cover the return shipping costs and return the materials in the same way in which they were originally sent.
    • Loans are granted for the purpose of conducting scientific research on herbarium material, for their identification, revision of markings, and for obtaining data from labels. Label data for a limited number of specimens can be provided free of charge in digital form upon request by the researcher.
    • Loans are granted for a period of one year. If additional time is required, an extension may be requested.

CITES is the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. The Washington Convention, to which Poland is a party, establishes the application of specific control and monitoring measures and the restriction of international trade in specimens. A list of protected species was also established. The list of specimens and their classification is available in the regulations and on the Spicesplus website and the website of the CITES Secretariat. The transport or export of the specimens listed there is prohibited unless the carrier holds a CITES certificate. From Poland’s perspective, a certificate is required when transporting specimens between the European Union and non-EU countries.

If you are interested in herbarium material of CITES species, please contact us using the form above.
