History of Botanical Collections
Exhibition titled “History of botanical collections” presents exhibits illustrating the development of botanical knowledge, forms of data collection and the possibilities of their use in scientific research.
The process of collecting botanical data has changed over time and from hand-calligraphed books describing plants with medicinal properties, we have reached the stage where we aim to make information about collections available online, and the collections themselves are precisely described and catalogued.
The exhibition also presents issues related to the binomial nomenclature of organisms introduced by Linnaeus, i.e. the process of documenting newly discovered species and identifying plant specimens. This gives you the opportunity to learn about potential ways of using collections and specimens based on modern research techniques, such as scanning microscopy or molecular research.

The exhibition was created and financed as part of the project entitled “Herbarium Pomeranicum – digitisation and accessibility of herbarium collections of Pomeranian academic units through their combination and digital accessibility”, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and state budget funds under the Operational Programme Digital Poland for 2014-2020.
