Flora Pomeranica Orientalis is a scientific project of the Herbarium of the University of Gdańsk, created in cooperation with the founders of the West Pomeranian Atlas of Plant and Fungi Distribution (Zachodniopomorski Atlas Rozmieszczenia Roślin i Grzybów – ZARRiG): Andrzej Łysko Ph.D. Eng., head of the Spatial Information Systems Team (Department of Multimedia Systems, Faculty of Computer Science, West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin) and Prof. Agnieszka Popiela, curator of Herbarium Stetinense (Institute of Biology, University of Szczecin).
The main goal of the project is to collect and archive floristic documentation from the Gdańsk Pomerania in an electronic database specially created for this purpose. This database unifies the format for storing floristic data from various authors, and thus is intended to be an accessible tool enabling the integration of many separate botanical data sets in one system. The project aims to improve and facilitate the exchange of scientific information and field work results between data authors.
The background for the location of the sites is the ATPOL grid. The collected floristic data comes mainly from the area of Gdańsk Pomerania or, more broadly, Central and Eastern Pomerania and covers the ATPOL squares: CA, CB, DA, DB and fragments BA and BB.
Spatial distribution of species
Distribution of species in time
Populations of individual species
Biodiversity of ecosystems in Gdańsk Pomerania
The database allows users to collect and edit their own data, draw maps and generate summaries of the data set (including lists of locations for species, printouts, exporting to a spreadsheet, .shp files, etc.). The editorial team supervises the substantive and systemic side of the project. All data entered and stored in the system retains copyrights (by assigning individual records to their authors).
We would like both the database and the presented website to facilitate cooperation between scientists and practitioners with various specialties related to broadly understood botany and nature conservation, as well as all those interested in the flora of the Gdańsk Pomerania region.
